Profile of Mr. Dawit Teshome

Mr. Teshome currently serves as Chief Technology Officer for Green Technology Africa, Inc., and is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the company. The CTO works with Executive Management to grow the company through the use of technological resources. Using an active and practical approach, the CTO will direct all employees in Technology departments to meet the company’s strategic goals established in the company’s strategic plan.

Professional Experience

Mr. Teshome has an extensive amount of experience in Renewable Energy business, working as a Senior Renewable Energy Consultant for the Office of Energy Initiatives (OEI) of the United States Department of Defense, helping the US Army’s goal to deploy 1 gigawatt of renewable energy projects by 2025. Mr. Teshome was responsible for all he technical aspects of large-scale renewable energy project activities. He is a seasoned utility electrical engineer and subject matter expert (SME) with over 12 years of professional experience in small to large-scale renewable energy technical integration, project financing and leadership:
  • Experienced with the integration and interconnection of renewable solar micro-grid energy generation into existing utilities HV and EHV utility substations
  • Experience in the use of micro-grid controls/new metering devices to integrate renewable resources, as well as utility-scale energy storage technologies to support these systems.
  • Experience with current renewable energy generation, including wind, solar, bio-mass, and performed renewable energy assessments for the development of renewable energy for large-scale applications
  • Responsible to articulate the assessed information into a site evaluation report and presented findings to the technical engineering team, and the project team.
  • Knowledge of how the project will affect the installation of the electrical utility system behind the meter and how to best use and distribute the electricity generated at the Army Installations.

  • Responsible to writes micro-grid or micro-grid ready requirements for the technical requirements.

  • Responsible to provide advice to the government effort to identify issues and approaches for the integration of large renewable energy systems with utilities distribution and transmission substation for interconnection to the grid.
  • Lead analysis of utility and installation power systems capacity and load requirements with detailed engineering assessments and preliminary one-line diagrams of infrastructure requirements.
  • Tasked to work collaboratively with installation DPW staff to optimize specification and ensure safe, efficient operation of the system.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Teshome has also served as Lead Engineer of Pepco Holdings, Inc (PHI). is one of the largest energy delivery companies in the United States Mid-Atlantic region, serving about 2 million customers, tasked with various aspects of energy planning and deployment operations including:
  • Worked for the Distributed Energy Resources Planning and Analytics Department. Worked closely with a cutting edge power systems software developer to develop tools for comprehensive analysis and planning of the interconnection and integration of Distributed Energy Resources and their impact at the transmission level. This analysis tool, capable of time series analysis, will analyze the aggregate impact of all DER on both the Distribution and Transmission System.
  • Worked closely with PJM on PHI Transmission and Distribution level Generation Interconnection Projects.
  • Conduct a detailed thermal and voltage analysis for 5 year as planned system which includes the addition all planned PJM RTEP projects. Determine if Pepco, BGE/Pepco and Mid-Atlantic zones meet RFC/NERC criteria tests as well as PJM load deliverability test. Identify system constraints (thermal/voltage) and determine system enhancements required, costs and construction time line for the necessary enhancements.
  • Perform analysis for transmission projects to confirm PJM violations results and develop Construction Recommendations to show solutions to violations and request/outline engineering specifications and costs.
  • Respond to N-1-1 RTEP Results. Confirm PJM results for N-1-1 analysis and determine possible solutions to violations.
  • Worked and completed recommendations for the installation of sub-transmission and transmission lines.
  • Performing complex work independently, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques in the area of System Planning.
  • Performing and interpreting engineering and/or economic data analyses for LARGE AND/OR COMPLEX engineering projects, using specialized utility programs, and/or vendor-specific software.
  • Develop and maintain emergency restoration plans to provide guidance for restoring service to customers affected by contingencies that are well outside the bounds of those routinely considered under PHI System Planning Criteria. These contingencies could include the loss of an entire substation, the loss of a major part of a substation, or the reduced output of a substation to adequately and/or reliably supply required load for a lengthy period of time.
  • Provide support to System Operations in guiding the orderly restoration of services to customers impacted by major electricity delivery system interruptions.
  • Represent System Planning in meetings with existing and potential customers and/or their consultants. Review and investigate customer inquiries and supply designs to ensure that the supply of power service to their facilities will meet the need of the customer and of the PHI electricity delivery systems.
